Our guest speaker and teacher will be Karen Phillips-Shwallon a nationally recognized needlework teacher, designer, and author. She has won many national awards including Best of Show at the Woodlawn Plantation National Needlework Exhibition taking a first place award over 600 entries from all over the US. She will also be on the faculty at the Applique Academy in Williamsburg VA for the winter of 2016 where Elly Sienkiewicz of Baltimore Album Quilts fame has also been on the faculty.

Karen's trunk show/lecture is called A WALK IN TIME which showcases quilt making from the beginning of the last century until today. She will be teaching 2 classes for our guild. at the Boyne District Library in Boyne City.

This class will focus on embroidery stitches often used on traditional Crazy Patch quilts as well as other embellishment techniques. Students will use one of the Workbasket designs to create a one-of-a-kind wall hanging. More Workbasket patterns are available to make a quilted piece that is larger. Crazy-Patched Workbasket class. There is no kit for this class, but the pattern will be provided. Students may bring in their own threads, ribbons, lace, beads and other embellishment materials as well as a neutral background fabric for the center embroidery basket motif. Karen will have some things available also.

Kit-$25.00 includes stenciled design on neutral fabric with voile, batting, backing, threads and pattern.

This class focuses on stuffed work that has a flawless back and beautiful quilting. Perfect for the student who is looking to learn the basic quilting stitch and stuffed work.
Students need to bring a hoop (preferably 14”), sharp scissors, thimble and favorite size of quilting needle
